3D Week 01

In this week's assignment, we learned about exporting and importing in between Maya and UE4 (Unreal), finding the proper scale for UE4, and material settings.

We start off with bringing in the player model from UE4. We do so by exporting the model's skeletal mesh out of UE4 as an fbx file. Once in Maya, we import the fbx file and voila! The player model is now in Maya.

Having the player model as a reference is very helpful when trying to establish scale. Here we see the size comparison between the 6 ft model and a 10 unit cube.

Here is the set up for the material instance. This was the base material that was used to create the following material instances.

I made 3 different material instances based on the initial material. I chose these 3 different colors because I knew that I wanted my scene to have a very rosy atmosphere to it.

Here are a couple of shots from my scene. I tried setting up the blocks in a way that I thought would be interesting composition-wise. I changed the color of the sky closer to how it looks when the sun has just set and night is about to take over. I kept the blocks as metallic because I really enjoyed the reflections they gave from their surroundings, especially when placed diagonally from each other. It gives a cool effect in the reflection as seen in the third image. I added a similar material to the plane the blocks were sitting on to integrate it more into the environment.
